EXPLANATION OF TERMS

Carrier Route Saturation refers to a mailing technique that delivers a mail piece to at least 90% of total active residential addresses, giving you the lowest possible postage rate.

Catchment area is the geographic area around your business that contains the ideal concentration of your existing customers. It is defined by zip code mapping and guides the specialty list selection of the SPM contact strategy.

Core Customer area is the geographic area around your business that contains the highest concentration of both your customers and households that would be suitable prospects. It is defined by zip code mapping and guides the use of Carrier Route Saturation.

CRRT is United States Postal Service shorthand for Carrier Route.

Customer database or Customer file refers to your electronic list of customers. It could include name, address, various demographics, unique identifiers (like a customer number), transactional history, and any other information you may have about your customers.

Household targeting refers to the statistical rating of individual households in regards to relevance to you. Each household is rated first for inclusion in or exclusion from prospect mailing lists, then by priority for contact. Both of these allow for limited marketing budgets or special circumstances to be accommodated.

Life Event Triggers™ identifies households that would be considered to have a high likelihood of responding to your offer. It focuses on reaching them at the time when they’re most receptive and open, so it may include families who have recently moved into the area, newlyweds, or people changing jobs.

Market area refers to the geographic area that more traditional “market” definitions might describe.  It includes all of the Catchment and Core Customer areas, as well as areas that contain many households that fit your customer profile but for some reason haven’t produced many actual customers.
